It's Almost Fall, Y'ALL!

Happy Sunday!  It is a very dreary Sunday here in NC.  It makes me wish fall would hurry up and get here.  The county fair starts next week and I'm already craving turkey legs, funnel cakes, and caramel apples.  I've been busy creating some fall activities for math based on the Common Core Standards for 2nd Grade to help me get ready for fall.  Pumpkins, Apples, and Scarecrows, OH MY!  Yes, this math unit is packed with all things for fall minus the Pumpkin Spice Latte from Starbucks.  Can you say yum?!  Click on the picture below to view this item in my TPT store.

Summer Vacay

Okay so I've been super busy and I am just now able to sit down for a sec and blog.  Between helping a friend move into her new house, and taking care of all of my home stuff that doesn't get done during the school year (thoroughly cleaning, dog to the vet, summer dance camp for my daughter, etc.) I've been a busy woman.

But, my blog and my bloggy friends have been on my mind {promise}.  I just haven't had a moment to post pics of things my students created before we got out of school.  Those will come in the near future.  I've been creating a classroom management clip chart that I will share FOR FREE, with you guys after I get it laminated so you can see it in action.

Meanwhile, take a look at my "Back to School Math Centers" activities that I have been working on again and off again for the past 3 weeks.  It's only for 2nd grade teachers, but can be adapted for 1st and 3rd for differentiation among high and low students.  I am using it for a review of 1st grade concepts at the beginning of the year.  The students will work in groups of 3 or 4 and will rotate centers the 1st week of school.  It allows me to see what they have learned and concepts that need more reviewing.

13 Days and a Multiplication Packet For You

Well, technically 12 and 1/2 since our last day of school is an early dismissal.  The students aren't dismissed until 1:30 so it is really like 2/3 of a day {not sure who decided to call it a half day anyway}.  Well, we have been reviewing and wrapping up the year.  My students are excited to dive into multiplication.  Since we will have arrays on the lovely Common Core next year, I decided to create a mini-packet to use with this class so they are a little more prepared for what's coming.  If you are still straining to get through these last few days, I hope this packet helps, if you are already out for summer LUCKY YOU!  Enjoy for free friends!

Counting to 1,000!

Also counting the number of days until Summer Break Begins!!!  We have 22 left.  How many do you have?  I will be so sad to see this class go.  They are a wonderfully, sweet group of 2nd graders.  They always tell me how much they miss me when I am out or how they wish they could stay with me on the weekends.  They are curious about my daughter and love when I tell stories about her.  Awww, I love them!  Can I please have them for 1 more year???

One end of year celebration our school is putting on is a "MATH" night after PTA Tuesday.  My students are looking forward to challenging me on some math games.  I sure hope their parents bring them out.  It will be lots of fun!  So, to help prepare them we have been finishing our "I Can Count to 1,000!"  books.  Some students are still only up to 200 and some have just about finished.  They pulled them out on Friday and worked and worked on getting to 1,000.  We've prepared all year and now it is a review to make sure they got it.  This is allowing me to see which students continue to struggle with counting.  Below is the freebie for you.  I hope this helps you as well.  Have a wonderful week!  (I am also having a TpT Sale May 6-8.  Stop by and grab my stuff now!  Use code TAD12 for an additional discount!  Thanks in advance!)

Graphs and Careers- Excellent Integration

We had Career Day this week, fun.fun!  We got to see 4 different careers...firefighters, martial artists, ballerinas, and Bomb Squad.  So, what better way to integrate math and social studies then with a graph.


In Math, we've been learning all about graphs.  There are some wonderful products on TpT that are a must have Graphs Galore by Michelle and All About Graphs by Lindsey.  Graphs can be tricky so I started with a basic bar graph using careers from Career Day.  


My students decided on their favorite career that we saw.  They wrote the job and drew it.  Then, we took a survey by raising our hands to find out how many tallies we needed to put next to each job.  Next, they had to create a bar graphs using their survey chart.  Lastly, they studied the graphs and answered the questions for the results.  


The graphs turned out wonderful!  They were able to apply the process of creating and reflecting.  They always tell me I wear.them.out!  I insist I am just exercising their brains and in my best Arnold voice "I'm gonna Pump. You. Up!  Enjoy these freebies friends!
